San Miguel de Allende is Declared American Capital of Culture 2019

San Miguel de Allende, World Heritage City, was declared "American Capital of Culture 2019", reported the International Bureau of Cultural Capitals, in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain), an organization that aims to display the cultural heritage of the localities to promote their tourism at a national and global level, and to generate cooperation among the capitals of the world. 

San Miguel de Allende was a candidate with other cities in Argentina and Peru, reported the office of the mayor of this city. They said that the electing committee assessed the candidacy project (Cultural Promotion Plan), the institutional consensus and the geographical distribution of this city. 

The signing of the commitment letter of the Bureau will be held on October 10, 2018, after Luis Alberto Villarreal Garcia is sworn in as Mayor of San Miguel de Allende; the appointment of San Miguel de Allende as "American Capital of Culture 2019" will be effective from January 1 until December 31, 2019.

The benefits are the repositioning of the city worldwide with the broadcasting of 8,000 spots in 45 countries, which translates into 2 million dollars worth of advertising.
